Iris laevigata 29 June 2008 - Euro - 2008 final fell exactly in between the periods of blooming of two very nice Irises: I. laevigata and I. ensata. Iris laevigata (on picture) waited in flowers until the Russian team lost semi-final with Spain. Spain won the final when Iris ensata opened flowers (two weeks prior the usual dates, by the way). Congratulations, my Spanish colleagues. German colleagues, let's wait until the Aster blooming.
Adonis amurensis 28 February 2007 - Few days with well positive temperatures (+4 - +6 degrees C) brought the end to the snow. Actually snow still covers ground in forest but many snow-free patches have appeared. The response of nature is the blooming of first ephemeroid Adonis amurensis. So far it takes time to find them, but a certain focus on snow-free patches and mixing of fallen leave by stick will bring success for sure. It is possible to say now that spring has came. Night temperatures are still negative, but in day time those +3 or +5 turn snow into the water.
Carpinus cordata 18 February 2007 - Since Pre-Christian time in Russia, today is the last day of the winter. Old traditions were mixed with Christian traditions, and this day is widely celebrated. People are saying by-by to winter, frying pancakes, making big fires saying "forgive me" to each other and having fun. We had even more 30 cm of snow last days, but have a look at nature. Willows have opened their masculine flowers and buds of many species got much bigger. Here is Carpinus cordata.
08 February 2007 - Snow time in Vladivostok. We wanted snow, we got it. The cyclon at the end of January brought dump air masses from eastern China and deposited about 30 cm of snow. Temperature in winter was little warmer than usual. All plants are still in deep dormancy, and there is no evidence of spring.
25 January 2002 - Site is open. Welcome.
